Bilbao Law Joins Statewide Effort to Provide Legal Representation for Individuals Detained at Alligator Alcatraz
Bilbao Law is honored to participate in a groundbreaking partnership with The Worker's Circle and Sanctuary of the South to provide legal representation to individuals detained in immigration custody throughout Florida.
For years, our firm has witnessed one of the greatest barriers to justice in the immigration system: the inability of people to afford legal representation. Many detained individuals have legitimate claims for relief, strong defenses to removal, or viable avenues to remain with their families. Yet too often, they are forced to navigate one of the most complex areas of law alone simply because they lack the financial resources to hire counsel.
Immigration cases are rarely simple. Even the most straightforward matters can take years to resolve. Families are often asked to shoulder significant legal costs while simultaneously coping with detention, family separation, lost income, and uncertainty about the future. We understand these realities because we live them alongside our clients every day.
That is why Bilbao Law has always worked to make representation more accessible through flexible payment plans, installment options, and access to financing resources. We believe that every person deserves a meaningful opportunity to present their case, defend their rights, and receive the due process guaranteed by law.
This partnership allows us to expand that mission even further.
At this moment in our country's history, providing legal representation is more important than ever. We are witnessing increasing reports of deaths in detention, allegations of physical abuse and mistreatment, prolonged detention, and troubling failures in the application of immigration law. When government agencies exercise immense power over the lives and liberty of human beings, legal oversight and due process are not optional—they are essential.
The United States has always been strengthened by people from different cultures, backgrounds, languages, and experiences. Our nation is a fusion of the world—a place where generations of immigrants have contributed to our communities, economy, and shared future. Protecting the rule of law means protecting the rights guaranteed to every person, regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.
Every human being deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and humanity.
Since the opening of the Alligator Alcatraz detention facility, our team has represented individuals held there and listened to firsthand accounts from detainees and their families. We have heard stories of conditions that no human being should be forced to endure. We have seen the emotional, physical, and financial toll that detention imposes on families who are simply seeking safety, opportunity, or the chance to be heard.
We believe that access to legal counsel is fundamentally important when human rights are at stake. It is especially important when individuals face prolonged detention, when serious concerns are raised about detention conditions, and when vulnerable people are navigating a legal system that can determine whether families remain together or are permanently separated.
We are proud of the work our team has done on behalf of detained families throughout Florida. This is not easy work. It requires long hours, difficult conversations, and the willingness to confront injustice when we see it. Yet we do this work with compassion, conviction, and an unwavering belief in the dignity of every person we represent.
We are grateful to partner with organizations that share these values and are committed to ensuring that no one faces detention alone simply because they cannot afford an attorney.
Together, we will continue fighting for due process, accountability, and the fundamental principle that every person deserves a fair opportunity to be heard.
Because protecting human rights is not a political issue—it is a human one.

If you or a family member is currently detained in Florida, we encourage you to seek legal assistance as soon as possible. The decisions made during the first days and weeks of detention can have a significant impact on a person's case and future.
